Capitol Records Signs Bee Gees to Long-Term Contract, Aims to Reinvigorate Catalog

Legendary musical group the Bee Gees have signed a long-term worldwide agreement with Capitol Records, encompassing the trio’s complete catalog of recorded music.

The agreement includes the rights to the band’s 22 studio albums, as well as numerous soundtracks, compilation albums, unreleased recordings and long-form audiovisual projects. This move ends the band’s relationship with Warner Music Group.

“The whole family is overwhelmed by this new agreement,” stated Bee Gee’s founding member Barry Gibb. “To be surrounded by the greatest record people and artists of all time is a very humbling experience. Wish my brothers were here to share it.”

Steve Barnett, chairman and CEO of Capitol Music Group, also expressed his excitement at the new partnership. Barnett and Gibb will work alongside Universal Music Enterprises and the estates of Maurice and Robin Gibb to produce and “reinvigorate” the band’s previously released and unreleased materials.

“The Bee Gees catalog is one of the most esteemed and important bodies of work in the history of recorded music, and we are brimming with ideas that will remind fans of its brilliance and further the band‘s legacy by introducing their music to new audiences,” Barnett said. “All of us at the company are honored that the Bee Gees have chosen Capitol as their new home.”

In addition to the noteworthy fan base the Bee Gees have maintained, the band has been awarded with eight Grammy Awards, as well as inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
