Seth Gilliam, who plays Rev. Gabriel Stokes on AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” was arrested and charged with driving under the influence on Sunday in Peachtree City, Georgia.
Gilliam was pulled over for driving 107 mph in a 55-mph zone, according to police. He was arrested after police discovered a marijuana cigarette in his car. At Fayette County Jail, Gilliam was charged with DUI, drug possession and speeding.
Peachtree City is about 30 miles southwest of downtown Atlanta. Filming for season six of “The Walking Dead” was under way in nearby Senoia, Georgia.
Gilliam’s trouble with the law might not be too shocking. According to Brett Martin’s book “Difficult Men: Behind the Scenes of a Creative Revolution: From The Sopranos to Mad Men to Breaking Bad,” Gilliam has generated a reputation for this sort of behavior. During his time on “The Wire,” Gilliam was reportedly part of a “core group” of cast members that would hang around seedier parts of Baltimore.
“A rowdier scene existed among the younger cast members — untethered, far from home, and often in need of blowing off steam,” writes Martin. “This social group was centered on the Block, the stretch of downtown East Baltimore Street populated by a cluster of side-by-side strip clubs (and, in semi-peaceful détente across the street, BPD’s downtown headquarters). The cast of ‘The Wire’ became legendary visitors to the Block, with a core group including West, Gilliam, Lombardozzi, Pierce, Andre Royo (Bubbles), J.D. Williams (Bodie), and Sonja Sohn (Kima)—holding her own among the boys in one of many on- and off-screen parallels.”

It’s been a a trying week for “Walking Dead” fans. Prior to Gilliam’s arrest, Chad L. Coleman (Tyreese on “TWD”) was caught on camera as he ranted about his identity to passengers on a New York subway train.
